- You know, one of the, when you read the magazines or watch television, you get all the great highlights. What you don't see is kind of the day-to-day, hauling equipment, day-to-day drudgery, day-to-day conflicts. Even though we all relied on each other, and many of us are very close friends, you get on each other's nerves living on top of each other. You get certain people who want more recognition, some less, when that camera comes out. So there's a lot of our, you know, a lot of it's negotiating. I wouldn't do anything differently in terms of who I brought together, but I think I'm smarter now about really, I guess I'd be more prepared to know how difficult it is. It's hard enough to do the science, it's hard enough to cave dive, it's hard enough to do the science, cave dive, and try to film it all in one. So you really felt a lot of pressure. Not just water pressure, but real pressure. And you're in there and some of these caves would silt out and they'd remain silty for a long time. So you felt like this is the one dive where we gotta get it all done. And sometimes I think we tried to do too much on a dive and maybe, you know, either maybe that put us in a riskier situation from a safety perspective. I think it also, we probably put too much pressure on ourselves and I'd probably back off and be more realistic about what you can really get done under these kind of circumstances.

- ¿Cuáles son los retos y realidades cotidianas al planear y llevar a cabo una expedición?

- Una de las, cuando lees las revistas o ves la televisión, puedes ver destacados los grandes momentos. Lo que no ves es algo así como el día a día, transportar equipo, la monotonía diaria, los conflictos diarios. Aunque todos dependemos el uno del otro, y muchos de nosotros somos amigos muy cercanos, los nervios se irritan con la constante proximidad. Hay ciertas personas que quieren más reconocimiento, algunos menos, cuando sale esa cámara. Así que mucha de nuestra labor, se trata de negociar. No haría nada diferente en términos de a quiénes reuní, pero creo que ahora soy más inteligente sobre, supongo que estaría más preparado, sabiendo lo difícil que es. Ya es bastante difícil hacer la ciencia, es bastante difícil bucear en cuevas, es aún más difícil hacer la ciencia, bucear en cuevas, e intentar filmarlo, todo en uno. Entonces realmente se siente mucha presión. No solo presión del agua, sino presión real. Estás ahí, y algunas de estas cuevas se llenaban de sedimento y permanecían así durante mucho tiempo. Entonces sentías que esta era la única inmersión para lograr que hacerlo todo. Y a veces creo que intentamos hacer demasiado en una inmersión y tal vez, eso nos puso en una situación más arriesgada desde una perspectiva de seguridad. Creo que también, probablemente nos presionamos demasiado, y seguramente daría un paso atrás y sería más realista acerca de lo que se puede lograr bajo este tipo de circunstancias.
