Explorers at Work: Beverly and Dereck Joubert

Award-winning filmmakers, photographers and conservationists Dereck and Beverly Joubert have dedicated their lives to saving the wild places and animals of Africa. In 2009, the Jouberts established the Big Cats Initiative with National Geographic with a goal to halt the creatures’ decline in the wild and since then have helped saved huge numbers of big cats.

- [Dereck] We were born in Africa, and so it really has been a part of our lives. When we went into the wild, we fell in love with lions and big cats and dedicated our lives to that.

- [Beverly] We're in the business of changing the world. We're in the business of conserving the planet.

- [Dereck] We realize that we're exploring to change the planet and to change perceptions.

- [Beverly] It is our responsibility to speak out and address the situations that need to be changed.

- [Dereck] I think that we each have an explorer in us. My name is Dereck Joubert, and I'm a filmmaker and an explorer.

- [Beverly] My name is Beverly Joubert and I'm a filmmaker, photographer, and an explorer.
