On February 6, 1945, Nesta Robert “Bob” Marley was born in Nine Mile, Jamaica. Bob Marley is the most famous reggae musician of all time. Reggae is a slow, danceable music that developed in Jamaica in the 1960s. Reggae lyrics often focus on social and spiritual issues. Bob Marley wrote songs about poverty and racism. He also wrote about unity, justice, and peace. Marley was a very important musician, recognized as having the “album of the century” (Exodus) and the “song of the millennium” (“One Love”).
