On February 7, 1867, Laura Elizabeth Ingalls was born in Pepin County, Wisconsin. While she was still a young girl, Laura’s family moved from Wisconsin to Kansas, back to Wisconsin, to Minnesota, to Iowa, back to Minnesota, and finally to South Dakota! Laura wrote about her family and daily life in eight books for young readers called the Little House series. (The first two books are called Little House in the Big Woods and Little House on the Prairie.) Some of the things Laura wrote about include making maple syrup in the winter and building a log cabin for the family to live in. Laura married a farmer, Almanzo Wilder, and also wrote about his childhood in upstate New York. Since they were first published in the 1930s, Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books have been enjoyed by millions of readers, and inspired series about Laura’s daughter, mother, grandmother, and even her great-grandmother!
