On February 29, 2008, Rare Disease Day was established. Rare Disease Day brings attention to illnesses that affect very few people. Rare diseases can be difficult and expensive to treat. Some rare diseases are cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy. By making people aware of rare diseases, supporters hope to raise money. The money could help people living with rare diseases by helping them buy medicine or special equipment. The money could also help scientists discover a treatment or even a cure for some rare diseases.
