The top ten finalists from the 2012 National Geographic Bee explain why studying geography is exciting.

Transcript (English)

- My favorite thing in the world to do is study geography. I like maps. I like looking at stuff, looking at everything around the world.

- Geography is used every day, even without you knowing it.

- Putting yourself in the other people's shoes around the world, I think is just really fun to do.

- Well, geography is something that is full of surprises. And I like the surprises, and I like the excitement.

- I don't know, it just, like, it mystifies me.

- You can really see many things and discover many things about the world.

- It really helps me to realize that we aren't the only people in the world. There's others.

- It opens up like a new way of thinking, and when you think about events that happened, you can connect with them.

- There are definitely a lot of differences with other people in different countries, but there are also a few similarities that you can compare yourself to.

- Geography is not only like place names, just rivers, cities, but it's, like, knowing why people moved there.

- Yeah, if people just, like, knew and understood everybody else in all the different cultures, there would be world peace I think.

- No sé, simplemente me fascina.
