Fernando Trujillo, 2024 Rolex National Geographic Explorer of the Year, is a marine biologist who has dedicated his life to studying, protecting, and conserving the Amazon's pink river dolphins. Fernando’s work is part of the National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition—a multi-year science and storytelling exploration of the Amazon River Basin, from the Andes to the Atlantic, to further our understanding of this intricate freshwater system and advance solutions to ensure its protection.
